Church History

The Church of the Redeemed of the Lord, founded by Pastor Jerome and Lady Marsha Stokes, began as a storefront church at 519 N. Chester Street in Baltimore, Maryland. On Sunday, November 24, 1985, CRL opened with twelve members and gained approximately 50 members within its first 11 months. After just 18 months, the Chester Street location, having a seating capacity of 150 people, became inadequate as the Lord added to the church daily. Therefore, on March 20, 1988, three years after its inaugural service, the Church Committed to the Word and Ways of God relocated to 4617 York Road in East Baltimore. This move, motivated by the leading of the Lord, spawned continued growth necessitating that CRL again relocate. On August 24, 1997 The Church of the Redeemed of the Lord moved to 4321 Old York Road, its current facility. Built (reconstructed) by Pastor Stokes and the Members of the Church of The Redeemed of the Lord, the current facility scarcely accommodates the church’s current active and lively membership.

Bishop Stokes functions as the CEO of the ministry, which currently consists of multiple operational components and supports more than forty ministries of the church. Under his leadership, the ministry continues to offer a variety of services to the community, free of charge. He oversees a large staff of Associate Pastors, Elders, and Ministers. As a result, many have entered the Pastorate and established ministries.

Dr. Stokes broadcasts internationally, reaching millions via the Lamp of Victory radio program including weekly broadcasts in Trinidad and Tobago, Barbados, Antigua, and Grenada. He is the author of several books, including his most recent release, I REFUSE. Dr. Stokes is happily married to Lady Marsha Stokes and the father of two children.

Our growth and development has been consistent and steadfast, with an ongoing influx of new members joining the church each month. The Church of the Redeemed of the Lord is a warm, friendly church with more than 40 ministries designed to help and encourage members to express their many gifts and talents. Most importantly, these ministries aid our overall goal of winning more souls to Christ.
